Hey, Everybody! Here we go with Issue 267!

How's the worldbuilding coming along? Projects humming well? Hope so! After January's rest and recover, it's time to dive back in , right? Me too! But, at least for me, it's wise to ease back in. If i don't, I'll overcommit and then panic! No one needs panic, right?

So, to help with that easing in, I thought I'd bring some nice, calming Geography this time! One of the bedrocks (...ok, I couldn't resist that one...) of worldbuilding. Language, and so much more revolve around how a culture and people see their local geography which in turn...shapes their culture! So hey, let's get started!

How's WorldEmber been? It's almost over. Jan 3rd is so very close. Well, no matter what your goals were-word count badge, special categories, expand your setting, etc-I hope you nailed them. But, if not, there's still time to squeeze a little more out! From what I understand, after this comes the Reading Challenge! Great challenge really. It's a time to kick back, rest and reflect. There has been so much unfolding in my corner of this fine Anvil, and in the online spaces beyond, so allow me to take a moment to share my delight with you, celebrate some big wins, and ensure everyone is feeling just as FERAL as I am!

The Most Pressing Update: COPPER IS ACHIEVED!

How about that, y'all? Your local owl has achieved copper on day two of Summer Camp, and I'm nowhere close to being done with these submissions — though the ideas I've put on the table are already super exciting for me! I'm making this update before slinking off to bed after a long day of writing sprints, article submissions, and other side quests, so you can expect my Summer Camp overview article to be updated with my submissions later! But do keep an eye on it throughout the event to know what I'm working on!

Tackling the Iron Gorge — Summer Camp Live!

Members of my Twitch community convinced me (yes, it was totally THEIR sole decision, not mine, obviously) to shoot for a new challenge this year: the fabled Iron Gorge. 21 days of streaming Summer Camp content during the event. Can I do it? I guess we'll find out!

On that note, I thought I'd share my stream schedule for Summer Camp with you lovely beans, in case you wanted to stop by and watch, chat, work, or lurk with us! All times are listed in EDT(-4 GMT)!

• Saturdays 2PM - Prompt brainstorming! We just got some new prompts, and we're putting our teeth on them ASAP.
• Sundays 2PM - SUNDAY SPRINTS! We did enough talking on Saturday. It's time for focus and writing!
• Select Tuesdays & Thursdays 7-8PM - Pop-up sprints! Hour-long sessions of late-night worldbuilding. Short and sweet!
• Fridays 2PM - Sprints & Chill! We start with a few writing sprints, then reward ourselves for a week's work with a gaming break.

Summer Camp is almost here! Sort of. How is everyone? Summer Camp homework shaping up? Prep looks like it's coming along nicely. So, have you figured out how you're going to tackle summer camp? That's important, too! Not just maps, or what world, but the 'how'. Will you take it at an even pace? Or savagely attack each prompt, sparing none of them? Somewhere in between works , too! At least for me, pacing for Summer Camp means a lot. For me? I tend to go "Chill". Take my time. Quality over quantity as the saying goes. But it's an important personal choice!

This is one of the most personal pieces I’ve ever written.

Inspired by my experience living with PCOS, The Hollowing explores a silent, incurable affliction through a fantasy lens — one that reshapes bodies, futures, and identities.

It weaves together storytelling, worldbuilding, and illustration to give voice to what often goes unseen.

I’ve been working on this quietly for some time. The art took several attempts before it finally felt like it was saying what I needed it to.

This also became an exercise in writing more deeply for one of the characters in the novel I’m working on — grounding their experience in something real.

Whew, where did May go? I turned around and now it's June! Which does mean, Summer Camp! Are you going to give it a try? Camp Feral? Camp Chill? ( I'm Camp Chill myself ). No matter what, it's a fun time, and challenging.

For me, it has been, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I've been polishing (and polishing again) instead of pushing worldbuilding out live. But hey, it goes like that sometimes, doesn't it? This time I found myself reading a lot o Natural Law worldbuilding. That's fun stuff. The backbone of settings, how they connect and interact. Could be laws of magic, where superpowers originated from, but it could be something deeper that connects cultures. I think that's why I like reading them, you never know what you'll find!
